Another week, another recap - and I can almost promise you we'll have a story break in the next few days as well, so catch up on this week, and stay tuned for something fun, something new, something... short.  In the meantime, here's the latest:

SANTEE LEAVES TOPEKA -- The Topeka Capital-Journal notes that former KYYS/KBEQ personality Spike Santee has left his role as Cumulus/Topeka Market Manager, but remains with the company and retains his Senior Vice President title. According to Santee's website, he will now focus on "the company's new national branding and marketing efforts."

FORBIS BACK IN MO NEWS -- A former Kansas City newsman is back on the air in Missouri, now from his current Florida locale. With the addition of KIRX/Kirksville to its outsourced news service, Virtual News Center has added former KCMO-A/KMBZ News Director Dale Forbis to handle anchor duties from his home base in Orlando.

KFKF UNVEILS "HIGH NOON SALOON" -- "The All-Request 70s and 80s Lunch" has disappeared from the noon hour at KFKF. In its place, you'll now find the "High Noon Saloon" playing "Your most wanted songs" according to the station's website.

PRESS CLUB SEEKING ENTRIES -- The Kansas City Press Club is currently taking entries for the 2010 Heart of America Awards, which will be presented on June 5th at the Muehlback Hotel. The broadcast radio categories in which a station can enter are: News Program, Breaking News, Business Reporting, Talk Radio, Feature, and Investigative Reporting. For more information, or to enter, CLICK HERE.

KPRS JOCKS UP FOR AWARDS -- Voting is underway for the Kansas City Entertainment Awards, and three KPRS personalities are on the ballot in the "Best Radio DJ/Personality" category. Brian B. Shynin, Sean Tyler, and Big Kenny Diamondz are three of the category's five nominees, and you can cast your vote for all 25 categories once per day from now until April 15th. CLICK HERE to cast your ballot.

KCHZ MORNINGS STILL OPEN -- A recent All Access note from Cumulus SVP/Programming Jan Jeffries notes that the search continues for a new KCHZ morning show. You may recall that the opening was originally posted last fall after the station transitioned to CHR and dropped original morning team Shorty and the Boyz. No word on the status of the open night position which was advertised at the same time last fall, but has yet to be filled.

That'll do it for now...  Have a great weekend, and stay tuned!

Station Histories Update: KMBZ Posted

Saturday, 16 January 2010

Just wanted to make a quick post noting that the News Radio 980 KMBZ history page is up...  Feel free to contact me with any updates, additions, corrections, etc.  And because it would be a waste to find cool stuff like this and NOT share it, if you've got a few minutes, check out the 1999 Who Wants to be a Millionaire run of current KMBZ Program Director Neil Larrimore.  According to the Millionaire fan who posted the video, Larrimore was "one of the more personable contestants in the early days" of the show.  (Part one follows, and from there you can get to parts two and three of the video.)

Weekly Radio Recap (1/3 - 1/9)
Written by BroadcastKC Admin
Friday, 15 January 2010

It's our first Weekly Radio Recap of the new year, and already we've got a new station to report - plus other commencements, conclusions, and a Columbia format flip. Read on...

RALEY LAUNCHES WEB ROCKER -- Former KYYS/KCFX personality Randy Raley has unveiled a new classic rock station on the web at www.PlanetRadio.us. The station, based in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, features "those 300 songs you love from your favorite classic rock station...plus 2,000 more," all under the banner of "World Class Rock." Current specialty programs include: Acoustic Sunday (7AM to 9AM Sundays), and "Your Turn" (an hour of music submitted by a listener) at 6PM Sundays. Check out the station by CLICKING HERE.

MARLAR SHOW TO CONCLUDE -- BroadcastKC has learned that The Darren Marlar Radio Show will come to a close on January 30. The syndicated program, featuring former KCNW/KCWJ/KFKF personality Darren Marlar, began last summer and has aired on approximately a dozen stations in the US and Canada.

RICK MILLER GOES FULL CIRCLE -- Former Country 106.5 afternoon personality Rick Miller has officially gone full circle, returning to the afternoon shift at WKSJ/Mobile. Miller, who left that position to join WDAF in May of 2004, departed Kansas City when he and his "Work Release Program" co-host Sammye Phelps were let go in September of 2006.

Z-MAN BACK OFF-AIR -- You may recall we recently noted former KC sports talker Mike "The Z-Man" Zarrick had returned to the airwaves in St. Louis at KSLG-AM. This week we find (via an article on the recent departure of Bob Fescoe from KFNS) that Zarrick has already vacated his brokered 1PM to 2PM shift at 1380AM.

ZIMMER FLIPS IN COMO -- Looking eastward, central Missouri has a new FM sports talker, as Zimmer Radio Group has replaced KKCA 100.5's classic hits format with a simulcast of KTGR-AM. The station, which will pick up the KTGR-FM call letters, airs a full ESPN Radio weekday schedule, in addition to a local sports program on weekends.

Have a great week!
