Let's sneak this one in just under the wire...  It's still Friday (barely), and I've been thinking about Elvis Presley's 75th birthday today.  It would just be wrong to skip the chance to do a Freeform Friday post on it.  Especially when we could share an actual cut of (pre-Planet era) "World Class Rock" that I actually discovered via former KZPL music director Jason Justice. Lost you yet?

I suppose the typical thing to do would be post an Elvis song here, right?  Well around here, we're anything but typical, so our Elvis tribute will consist of a track from one of my favorite Kansas City stations of the just-ended decade.  "The New 1510AM."  You remember that little gem, don't you?  In fall of 2000 into February 2001, KCTE filled the void between a Hispanic format and the launch of Hot Talk 1510 with the first and only all-voicetracked station I'll ever love.  Classic alternative.  KNRX alum Jason Justice.  And a static-y AM signal.  That little station with its two-hour loop tape was just a blast to listen to - and introduced me to a number of great artists and songs.  Nick Drake's "Pink Moon."  Matthew Sweet.  And this one.  In honor of The King's 75th birthday - and the impending 10th anniversary of the little station that asked, "How long can a radio station survive playing two-hour loop tapes a former alternative disc jockey made in his basement?  Let's find out." (paraphrasing, of course).  From their 1990 self-titled release, this is Human Radio, with "Me and Elvis" on your Freeform Friday at BroadcastKC.com.
