Who runs this site anyway?

-- In three words, just a fan. Your BroadcastKC Admin has grown up with a love of radio since childhood, where he'd "DJ" (and sing) along to his Sony Walkman any time he was in the family van. By the time he was thirteen he'd developed a passion for media, especially radio, and began recording his favorite stations for fun. In high school, he still aspired to someday, somewhere, be on the radio, while also having a KC radio history website. This site is the product of that bond he developed with KC radio & TV in his youth.

Why did you decide to start BroadcastKC.com?

-- To allow listeners and personalities to remember, relive, and share their favorite KC media memories in one place. To honor the work of those who've put so much of themselves into the profession. And, as a bonus, to be able to say I've accomplished a lifelong dream.

How did you compile all of this historical information?

-- After spending hours late at night reading about old stations across the web, I began to compile the information you see here today over the course of a few months. I used notecards and Word files I'd created as a kid with station branding & staff information, combined with bits and pieces of infomation from old station websites through web.archive.org. The rest has been gleaned from conversations, listening to airchecks, Google searches, and archived Kansas City Star articles.

-- Visit our contact us page to send along any corrections or updates, and you will be credited for your input. In the future, you'll be able to post any corrections & updates to the actual page that contains the error or omission.

Can I send you Kansas City media news anonymously?

-- Definitely.  We realize that your anonymity is crucial, and are happy to honor any off the record requests.  In fact, it is our policy not to disclose to others the name of any media insiders we speak with.  As many current and former Kansas City personalities already know, we refuse to jeopardize our integrity and your trust.

I have an aircheck (or other artifact) that would be great on the site. Are you interested?

-- Yes! Just drop us a line from the contact us page. The more stations & events we can have represented with audio, logos, and other artifacts, the better!

Are there any particular artifacts you are looking to acquire for the site?

-- Thanks for asking! We would appreciate any artifacts you can contribute to the site, but we do have a short wishlist of media and logos you can view by clicking here.

Is BroadcastKC.com affiliated with any KC personalities or media outlets?

-- No. We are a completely independent operation based east of the KC metro, and we strive to be accurate and objective in our listings and coverage of all stations & personalities. All logos, branding, audio, and likenesses on our site remain the property of their original owner and are featured here for reference only.

Do you know how I can get in contact with [Name of Personality]?

-- That's a hit or miss question, but we're happy to try.  For current Kansas City media personalities, we recommend you try reaching them through their current station.  For many Kansas City alumni, we can often direct you to their current station.  Just e-mail us, and if we're able to make contact with the personality you're looking for, we'll pass your contact info along so they can get in touch with you directly.
